For a sense of scale on the Atlas V, which is an Atlas booster under a Centaur upper stage: the Titan IV, roughly equivalent to 3 Atlas boosters under a Centaur or IUS upper stage. The Titan has been a launch work horse for the Air Force for about 40 years, and will continue to service US unmanned heavy lift needs until the Atlas V and/or the Delta IV heavy-lift versions come on-line around 2005 (if ever).
